Art for Articule Auction

I just made this thing. It's one of my hand carved stamps all over various details from event and art flyers.
I made it as part of a stuffed envelope to be auctioned off as a fundraiser for Articule.

Bunnies @ Boa

I'm having a show of fresh prints at a fresh bar.
The goal is to raise funds to help pay my way
to an artist's residency that I was invited to in Banff, Alberta
So....come on down !
Enjoy art, see friends, have fun!

Another Noisy Booklet

Lately, when I find myself at the copyshop running some graphic errand, I either fish into the recycling bins for fodder or hopelessly remix whatever images I am carrying and whip off an edition of ten of some weird little noise book. Here is one, dated the 18th of January, 2006. I end up mailing these things out to whoever I happen to be artistically enamoured with at the moment. This one seems to be composed of two drawings, overlapped and remixed, that I drew for Warren Hill's zine "2$ (Comes With Mix Tape)"

Barcode

These anomalous barcodes were created by trying to print the regular beastly type onto waxy paper. Enlarged and enhanced, of course.

How To Study

Here are two fun cartoons from the How To Study booklet put out by Careers, Inc. sometime in the hoary past.

Space Creature Duplicating Masters

I lucked out when my friend Ian, an educator, handed me a bushel of old teaching aids. In that pile was this gem, Space Creature Word Slides (Teaching Stuff, USA, 1979, #TS601).
From the copy:
  • Reinforce 217 BASIC SIGHT WORDS with these Space Creatures and word slides.
  • Your students color and cut out their very own 10 creatures, each with two word slides.
  • Students read each word aloud as they slide it through the slits made on a Space Creature.

I didn't bother scanning in the word slides.
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SPACE CREATURES !
Can you smell the purple ??

    Space Creature 1

  • Space Creatures 2, 3, 4

    Space Creatures 5, 6, 7

    Punched Pennies

A while ago I learned how to use the Addressograph I scored from a folded local paper.
It's a machine that presses characters (addresses) into dog tag like bits of metal that are then put into another machine that prints out the labels for magazine/newspaper subscriptions.
I make 'lucky' pennies, pressing four letter words into pennies for a small fee.
Scanning the pennies, though, is tricky...the words are sunken not raised AND they look way better than this in real life.

    Who Knew ?

In the story "Heads I Win" from Archie's Double Digest # 140 it is revealed that
Riverdales' favorite two-timing klutz, Archie Andrews
not only is into 'The Boss !' but also has a CRASS poster up on his wall AND reads MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL.

The little person who drew these little people was certainly on the right track.

    Jim et Jean-Paul

These guys, seemingly from Quebec, went on vacation in 1977, it seems, to St. Lucia and had their own postcards printed up, all in green with funny comments documenting their sunburns, bar tabs and snarky complaints.
I found a total of 8 different cards ( with several doubles!) in a batch of postcards I picked up for the shop.
I smartened up quick and pulled these from the shelves needing, somehow, to share their uniqueness before they sold.
They are now in my private collection and I'd love to meet these guys and ask them about their trip.

    Cul = ass, btw.

    Poseidon Council

In 2002 Sam Shalabi and I
laughed our heads off making a very serious prog record,
An Sphinx Awoken. Our band ? Poseidon Council.
This is the record sleeve I made at the time for our grand opus.
We released maybe ten copies into the world.
Now this underground classic is available from notype as downloadable files.
They gave it a snazzy new cover.
Have a listen...but know that Merlin, too, is listening!

    Scrap Book

I tend to keep scrapbooks at work, no matter what job I have.
These books tend to be the repository of tiny scraps that I can't bear to let go.
This is the inside front cover of the most recent book started in April 2003.
    Slow to fill.
